Shantui’s Amazing Chase
Anticipation around the inaugural Amazing Chase on Sunday was heightened by a shock result in the first head-to head race at Manukau yesterday.
The Karen Walsh-trained Thrilling Flo led and was too quick for Chase favourite Tom Tee. Thrilling Flo zoomed around the Manukau track in 30.24 setting a tough mark for the remaining six contestants to beat. She earned $3,000 for her heat win and the $10,000 prize for the fastest time dangled tantalisingly for Walsh and owner Gary Harding.
Bigtime Paddy earned $3,000 in heat two but didn’t threaten the time of Thrilling Flo. But in heat three won by Walsh-trained Ridin’ Shotgun the clock was stopped in 30.23 to put the Aussie import in the lead.
Then heat four winner Shantui stole the win off the Walsh kennel clocking 30.22 and the prize was heading south to Canterbury to the kennel of Dave and Jean Fahey.
