Greens al­ready pre­pared for coali­tion bar­gain­ing

Green Party co-leader James Shaw said he would push a Labour gov­ern­ment to en­act a cap­i­tal gains tax – again ex­clud­ing the fam­ily home – as soon as pos­si­ble dur­ing coali­tion talks. ‘‘We do have a real sense of ur­gency around the hous­ing cri­sis,’’ Shaw said. But both Labour leader Jacinda Ardern and the pos­si­ble third head of that coali­tion, Winston Peters, ruled the idea out im­me­di­ately. Ardern would not com­ment on which ar­eas she would be will­ing to give ground on in coali­tion talks.
