Canterbury’s business heroes tell their stories
Our economic performance remains strong and ahead of the rest of New Zealand, both in Christchurch and across Canterbury. That is testament to the commitment and determination of the business community.
This year marks the 15th anniversary of the Champion Canterbury Business Awards. Over the past 15 years, the Awards have continued to evolve in the pursuit of creating a better understanding of the business activity that occurs in Canterbury and celebrating those people who are making a remarkable economic contribution to our region.
We have been fortunate to have retained a loyal group of sponsors who have worked closely with Champion Canterbury Ltd to ensure that the Awards remain high profile, relevant and viable. In celebrating our 15th year, I am looking forward to seeing a record attendance of 1,350 guests on the Awards night.
The Champion Canterbury Business Awards are unashamedly about celebrating business success and encouraging the wider community to recognise the valued contribution business makes to our region. Our economic performance remains strong and ahead of the rest of New Zealand, both in Christchurch and across Canterbury. That is testament to the commitment and determination of the business community.
Those businesses in turn rely on dedicated and loyal employees who are fundamental to business success.
A combination of our abundant natural resources, our increasingly sophisticated use of technology, good leadership, strong investor support and importantly great people make this a region where business opportunities abound.
It is always exciting when observing the entries into the Champion Canterbury Business Awards to see what a diverse matrix of businesses and supporting organisations we have in our region. We are the world’s best at a lot of what we do and we have abundant resources to underpin our activity. These Awards allow our business heroes to tell their stories, and with great justification, raise their profile as important players in our economy.
As we continue to advance the recreation of Christchurch, we see a rapidly evolving city which is increasingly becoming a city of choice. A city of choice for people to live, to work, to be educated, to raise their families and to enjoy all the unique amenities we have in our city and in our region.
Many of our structures, our infrastructure, our business practices and the wider community have leap-frogged into a new era taking up new ways of doing things because we had to. It will be up to the rest of New Zealand to try to keep up with us as we race into a vibrant and positive future. The businesses of Canterbury play a pivotal role in underpinning our city and our region as destinations of choice.
I want to thank our loyal family of sponsors who make these Awards possible, a special vote of thanks to the team that ensure that this night of celebration is memorable and unbeaten in terms of its offering across the country.
I also wish to congratulate all of those businesses who will enjoy success and extend my appreciation to the wider business community for the wonderful things it continues to do for our region. This will be my last year as chair of the Champion Canterbury Business Awards, a position I have held since the awards inception.
It has been an honour to work with all of the people who have made these Awards so special over so many years. ❚
