Crash kills woman
A woman aged in her 70s has died after she drove her car into a fence in Christchurch. Emergency services responded to the crash at Masham Rd (State Highway 1) near the intersection with Steadman Rd in Broomfield, at 3.15pm yesterday. A police spokeswoman said a the car had been driven into a fence. It appeared the crash may have been the result of a medical event, she said. St John spokesman Gerard Campbell said ambulance staff treated the woman at the scene. A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokeswoman said a Sockburn crew attended the crash after St John requested help. Masham Rd was reduced to one lane until about 5pm. The police’s Serious Crash Unit would investigate the crash.
