Take a day trip to Diamond Harbour to visit Sook Hwang’s textile art exhibition at Stoddart Cottage Gallery. Hwang’s exhibitions have included The Last Crown Prince, featuring seven embroidered robes in a series of emotional states possibly experienced by the Cho Sun royal family of Korea, particularly young Prince Lee Un who was forcibly exiled to Japan. Another piece, titled The Night Never Gives Me Sleep, is a series of raw silk panels abstracting the pain of thousands of Korean woman enslaved by the Japanese army during World War II. Her recent works will be on show at the gallery every Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout February.
