Steel worker named

Aman killed while work­ing at a steel fac­tory in Christchur­ch has been iden­ti­fied as Ch­esco James Krueger. It is be­lieved Krueger died when he­was struck by a piece of steel at United Steel in McAlpine St, Wi­gram, just af­ter 2pm on Mon­day. Ben Ham­mond, the group health and safety man­ager for United In­dus­tries Ltd, which owns United Steel, said an in­ves­ti­ga­tion was un­der­way, and the site was closed on Tues­day and yes­ter­day. He said the com­pa­ny­was ‘‘deeply sad­dened’’ by the fa­tal in­ci­dent and­was pro­vid­ing sup­port to em­ploy­ees.
