Frank Worsley
We read with interest the recent article about children who attended the Antarctic Heritage Trust’s tribute to polar explorer Frank Worsley. Frank Worsley was a former pupil of Fendalton Open-Air School, where we are current year 6 students. He was dux in 1887. His bravery and perseverance continues to inspire us all.
Every year we hold a special day ‘‘Ra Whakahira’’, where we celebrate our year’s learning and we always pay tribute to Frank Worsley. We raise a replica flag in his honour and perform dances and act out snippets from his courageous expedition. His incredible achievements are well known at our school and we continue to be proud of our connection to this famous explorer.
