Rivals to square off
Southland and Otago will go head to head in an age-group rugby treble at Rugby Park in Invercargill today.
The two province’s under-14 teams, under-16 teams and under18 teams will all take on each other, with the under-14 game starting the day at noon.
The under-16 teams will squareoff at 1.15pm, followed by the under-18 game at 2.30pm.
For the under-16 and under-18 Southland and Otago teams, the games are more lead-in fixtures for their respective South Island tournaments.
North Otago will host the under-16 tournament on October 5-7, while the under-18 tournament will be played in Christchurch on October 6-7.
The Southland secondary school girls team will also play against Otago today with the game scheduled to start at 1pm in Balclutha.
The South Island Secondary Schools tournament will be played over three days in Christchurch starting on October 1.
The Southland under-19 team also have an important fixture today as they line up in the Michael Jones Trophy final against Counties Manukau at the national tournament in Taupo.
Meanwhile, Hauroko Valley Primary School will represent Southland at the primary schools Rippa Rugby Championships in Wellington on Monday and Tuesday.
Twenty schools from all over the country will attend the event from the over 600 schools who attempted to qualify.
Arrowtown will represent Otago at the tournament.
