City school locked down

In­ver­cargill school Aurora Col­lege was briefly locked down yes­ter­day morn­ing while po­lice con­ducted ‘‘rou­tine in­quires’’ nearby.

Par­ents had raised their con­cerns af­ter armed of­fend­ers squad mem­bers were seen near the school.

A po­lice com­mu­ni­ca­tion spokes­woman ini­tially said po­lice were car­ry­ing out a war­rant to ar­rest in Hei­del­berg and the armed of­fend­ers po­lice.

How­ever, she later re­ported it was not a war­rant to ar­rest and that po­lice were ‘‘con­duct­ing rou­tine in­quiries as­sisted by AOS’’.

The in­quiry is on­go­ing, she said.
