Season in full swing
There was plenty of excitement in Southland tennis in Invercargill on Tuesday night.
The Cobb and Co Big Smash saw some of Southland’s top players lock horns in hard fought matches at Waihopai and ILT Stadium Southland.
In women’s action, promising youngsters Claudia Smith and Scarlett Cuthill clashed, with Smith taking it in a third set super tie breaker 6-3 1-6 10-8.
In other matches, Holly Munro picked up a 7-5 6-4 victory over the experienced Lynn Millar, Halle Faherty continued her excellent form with a 6-2 6-0 win over Bianca Popham, while Selina Stahler was too strong for Kim Heads 6-2 6-1.
Miles Pask accounted for the experienced Barry Smith 6-0 6-3 in men’s action, while Riley Smith beat Michell Heads 6-2 6-0 after the pair combined to beat youngsters Nick Munro and Kade Wilson 6-7 6-4 11-9 in a super tie breaker.
Wilson beat Nick Munro 6-1 6-1, when the pair met in singles.
