There was plenty of ex­cite­ment in South­land tennis in In­ver­cargill on Tues­day night.

The Cobb and Co Big Smash saw some of South­land’s top play­ers lock horns in hard fought matches at Wai­hopai and ILT Sta­dium South­land.

In women’s ac­tion, promis­ing young­sters Clau­dia Smith and Scar­lett Cuthill clashed, with Smith tak­ing it in a third set su­per tie breaker 6-3 1-6 10-8.

In other matches, Holly Munro picked up a 7-5 6-4 vic­tory over the ex­pe­ri­enced Lynn Mil­lar, Halle Fa­herty con­tin­ued her ex­cel­lent form with a 6-2 6-0 win over Bianca Popham, while Selina Stahler was too strong for Kim Heads 6-2 6-1.

Miles Pask ac­counted for the ex­pe­ri­enced Barry Smith 6-0 6-3 in men’s ac­tion, while Ri­ley Smith beat Michell Heads 6-2 6-0 af­ter the pair com­bined to beat young­sters Nick Munro and Kade Wil­son 6-7 6-4 11-9 in a su­per tie breaker.

Wil­son beat Nick Munro 6-1 6-1, when the pair met in sin­gles.
