Manson out of medals
Robbie Manson missed out on a medal at the world rowing championships in Bulgaria last night. The New Zealand men’s single sculler was fifth in the A final in Plovdiv, with Norway’s Kjetil Borch winning gold. Czech Republic’s Ondrej Synek, who has been world champion five times, took silver with Mindaugas Griskonis of Lithuania claiming bronze. Manson won the New Zealand single sculls spot for this year’s world championships ahead of three-time Olympic medallist Mahe Drysdale on the basis of his performances at the two World Cup regattas the Kiwis contested in Europe earlier this year. On Saturday, only one of five New Zealand boats in A finals managed a medal, with the women’s pair of Kerri Gowler and Grace Prendergast taking silver.
