Taking a different dive

The Southland Times - - Sport -

An overly competitive ‘‘football dad’’ in the UK has gone viral for pushing a young goalkeeper into a world-class save he had little idea about. In a Twitter video that has been viewed an astonishing 4.5 million times, the youngster is sent sprawling to the ground by a man behind the goal with the ball on its way to the net. As he falls to the ground he pulls off the save, although his efforts were in vain as the ball is then hammered home from the rebound. The man’s actions will resonate with millions of parents worldwide who watch their children play sport each weekend and must control their urge to lend a helping hand. Thankfully, the boy appeared unhurt by his tumble and now has a story to tell his mates at school: the day he created more Twitter buzz than Ronaldo.
