Under-17s bow out
New Zealand’s involvement in the Fifia under-17 World Cup is over after a 3-1 loss to African champions Mali. Having drawn 1-1 with Turkey and lost 4-2 to Paraguay in their first two matches, the Danny Hay-coached side needed a comprehensive win in New Delhi to progress, something that always looked difficult against one of the tournament favourites. Mali scored early and doubled their advantage in the 51st minute before Charles Spragg gave New Zealand some late hope but they conceded again in the 82nd minute to put the game beyond reach.
