Boy dies in creek

A 4-year-old boy was found dead in a creek at Brydone, in Southland, early on Wednesday evening. Police were alerted at 4.40pm that the boy was missing. A friend of his family found him dead in a creek behind the family’s property at 5.20pm. A police spokesman said emergency services personnel performed CPR on the boy but they could not resuscitate him. The death has been referred to the coroner.
