Relay for Life at Waimate raises $103,576

The final tally for money raised at the South Canterbury Cancer Society’s Relay For Life, held in Waimate in March, was $103.576.79. Hundreds of people took part in the fundraisin­g event, held at the Waimate A and P Showground­s. The 12-hour relay will return in 2022. It began as a biennial event in 2005, becoming annual in 2011. It had been held at Caroline Bay every year except 2018, when it was hosted at Geraldine after the decision was made to hold every second year relay at a rural location, and this year. About 350 people split between 30 teams took part in this year’s relay.
