The great British pop songs are about to invade Palmerston North.

Fresh from a successful season of Mamma Mia! Abbey Musical Theatre (AMT) has auditioned a strong cast for British Invasion.

The New Zealand show, further developed by director Ian Harman, is a tribute to the great British chart numbers of the last 50 years. The ‘Hits from the Brits’ is a fast moving montage of music from The Beatles to Adele and Amy Winehouse.

Production manager Michelle Luke says British pop music has played an important part in the lives of generations of Kiwis.

‘‘Names such as Mick Jagger, Petula Clark, the Spice Girls and Cliff Richard have left a lasting impression on us and this show is dedicated to their music,’’ she says.

Director Ian Harman and musical director Erna Ferry have auditioned and engaged about 20 singers who’ll be choreographed to perform the montage of songs.

‘‘All will have solos, duets and will sing the ensemble numbers,"Michelle says.

‘‘Ian and Erna will work with the talent to find those singers who can impersonate such legendary artists as Billy Idol, Lulu, Tom Jones and Dusty Springfield.’’
