Michael Hous­toun bring­ing back Bach

Re­gent on Broad­way co-pa­tron Michael Hous­toun is about to ‘Bring back Bach’. Jo­hann Se­bas­tian is (ahem) em­bark­ing on a mu­si­cal jour­ney with Michael aboard the Re­gent on Broad­way grand.

Michael Hous­toun: Inspired by Bach, the Cham­ber Mu­sic New Zealand pro­gramme from New Zealand’s own key­board great, ex­plores Bach’s mu­sic through pi­ano tran­scrip­tions – the pi­anoforte hadn’t been in­vented when Bach com­posed his pieces – homages and with the spe­cially com­mis­sioned Fugue for Pi­ano, a new work from Kiwi com­poser Ross Harris.

That will play along­side Bach’s Par­tita No 1 in B flat, Lil­burn’s Cha­conne (in recog­ni­tion of the com­poser’s cen­te­nary) and mas­ter­pieces by

Michael Hous­toun: Inspired by Bach fol­lows in the foot­steps of the pi­anist’s mon­u­men­tal 2013 Cham­ber Mu­sic New Zealand tour per­form­ing all of Beethoven’s pi­ano sonatas, which re­sulted in an ac­claimed col­lec­tor’s edi­tion record­ing.
