The Tribune (NZ) - - WHAT’S ON -

Amusician described by the San Jose Mercury News as ‘‘the future of the Blues’’ is returning to Palmerston North.

US blues guitarist and vocalist Chris Cain has played the Manawatu International Jazz and Blues Festival before.

He’s back performing at the Globe Theatre on October 10 as part of a three venue gig and recording session. Joining Chris in concert on his brief New Zealand tour is the Rodger Fox Big Band and our own Erna Ferry.

They’ve played together often, and Rodger’s a big fan, dubbing Chris the ‘‘King of the Blues’’. With fourWCHandy Awards, the blues world’s equivalent of a Grammy, Rodger’s obviously not the only fan. The Washington Post declared Chris a ‘‘hot-shot guitarist and singer with a relaxed style and mature expression of the old masters like Bobby Bland and BB King’’.

The Rodger Fox Big Band have performed with the likes of Charlie Musselwhite, Robben Ford, Midge Marsden, Mike Stern, Joey De Francesco, Patti Austin, and Bob Sheppard.

Erna Ferry, vocalist and blues harp player, has toured with the World Blues Revue, performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival and is known far and wide as a consummate jazz artist.

The concert and release tour of the Chris Cain/Rodger Fox Big Band King of the Blues CD is Saturday October 10.

Bookings are at The Globe.
