Burlesque Fest returns
The New Zealand Burlesque Festival is probably the sparkliest event on Palmerston North’s performance calendar.
The whirlwind of glitter, feather boas and nipple tassels returns next week for its third year, as part of a three centre tour. Its headline acts include winners of the Las Vegas-based Burlesque Hall of Fame – Ginger Lee Valentine, Missy Lisa, Angie B. Lovely and Bazuka Joe.
They perform alongside New Zealand’s Ruby Ruin, winner of the Grand Tease New Zealand burlesque competition, Fanciforia Foxglove and two dozen other top local performers.
The festival includes workshops in the art of the shimmy and tease for newcomers and experienced performers alike.
For the third year running, the Burlesque Exchange Scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding Kiwi performer, granting automatic entry into the Show Me Burlesque Festival 2016 in St Louis, USA, as well as assistance with travel costs, and help to establish their own US-based tour.
New Zealand Burlesque Festival co-producer Kerry Rodda, known internationally for her performances under the stage name MisRed Delicious, established the festival with husband Danny Rascal, to foster and grow the burlesque industry in New Zealand. The awardwinning entertainer recently performed in the United States.
Tickets for the three-night festival which opens with a 7.30pm promenade night in the Globe Theatre next Thursday October 8, are on sale via eventfinda.co.nz/tour/2015/newzealand-burlesque-festival
