Speedway roars back into life
Over winter months they’ve been building, improving and modifying their stockcars but now it’s time to try them out when the Robertson Holden International Speedway roars back into life at Central Energy Trust Arena on Saturday, October 10.
This season is set to be a full one with 25 potential race dates running through to the end of April. Opening night on October 10 will be the first chance for competitors to show off their new builds and paint schemes for the 2015 /16 Speedway Season.
‘‘Palmerston North is the first track to open in New Zealand for the season and is set to attract competitors from out of town to come and try out their new or rebuilt stockcars,’’ says track manager Bryan Puklowski.
Opening night fields are expected to be in excess of 80 competitors from the following classes: Superstocks, stockcars, sprintcars, minisprints, sidecars and adult and youth ministocks, he says.
After opening night, race fans are able to witness Speedway for four weekends in a row from October 17 to November 7 with the Robin Pratt Stockcar Memorial on the Saturday of Labour weekend (October 24), the Lucas Oil SuperStock Series on Halloween and finally the Fireworks Spectacular which sees the ever popular Ramp Derby making its return on November 7.
The season is building towards the pinnacle event on the nation’s Speedway Calendar – the ENZED SuperStock Teams Champs on February 6/7 which will celebrate its 35th year and is an event not to miss! Tickets are already on sale through TicketDirect.
The season also promises to deliver national titles for minisprints, the New Zealand Sidecar Grand Prix and the prestigious North Island Sprintcar Championships which will feature competitors from around New Zealand.
Gate Prices at Arena Manawatu will stay the same for the 2015/16 Speedway Season, and, as an incentive to the public, practice on October 7/8, 2015 from 5pm – 7pm will be free of charge.
