Speed­way roars back into life

Over win­ter months they’ve been build­ing, im­prov­ing and mod­i­fy­ing their stock­cars but now it’s time to try them out when the Robert­son Holden In­ter­na­tional Speed­way roars back into life at Cen­tral Energy Trust Arena on Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 10.

This sea­son is set to be a full one with 25 po­ten­tial race dates run­ning through to the end of April. Open­ing night on Oc­to­ber 10 will be the first chance for com­peti­tors to show off their new builds and paint schemes for the 2015 /16 Speed­way Sea­son.

‘‘Palmer­ston North is the first track to open in New Zealand for the sea­son and is set to at­tract com­peti­tors from out of town to come and try out their new or re­built stock­cars,’’ says track man­ager Bryan Puk­lowski.

Open­ing night fields are ex­pected to be in ex­cess of 80 com­peti­tors from the fol­low­ing classes: Su­per­stocks, stock­cars, sprint­cars, min­is­prints, side­cars and adult and youth min­i­s­tocks, he says.

Af­ter open­ing night, race fans are able to wit­ness Speed­way for four week­ends in a row from Oc­to­ber 17 to Novem­ber 7 with the Robin Pratt Stock­car Me­mo­rial on the Satur­day of Labour week­end (Oc­to­ber 24), the Lu­cas Oil Su­per­Stock Se­ries on Hal­loween and fi­nally the Fire­works Spec­tac­u­lar which sees the ever pop­u­lar Ramp Derby mak­ing its re­turn on Novem­ber 7.

The sea­son is build­ing to­wards the pin­na­cle event on the na­tion’s Speed­way Cal­en­dar – the ENZED Su­per­Stock Teams Champs on Fe­bru­ary 6/7 which will celebrate its 35th year and is an event not to miss! Tick­ets are al­ready on sale through Tick­etDirect.

The sea­son also prom­ises to de­liver na­tional ti­tles for min­is­prints, the New Zealand Side­car Grand Prix and the pres­ti­gious North Is­land Sprint­car Cham­pi­onships which will fea­ture com­peti­tors from around New Zealand.

Gate Prices at Arena Manawatu will stay the same for the 2015/16 Speed­way Sea­son, and, as an in­cen­tive to the public, prac­tice on Oc­to­ber 7/8, 2015 from 5pm – 7pm will be free of charge.
