Memories sung for Alzheimer’s

The Tribune (NZ) - - NEWS -

Yesterday Was just the Beginning of My Life: Anyone alive in ’75 will possibly remember theNo 1 hit for Mark Williams, the song that launched his career.

Now lead singer for Dragon in Australia, Mark is returning to New Zealand next year for a special musical project.

Jazzmeister Rodger Fox has long had a dream of rearranging classic Kiwi pop songs for his big band. Rodger has taken songs such as April Sun in Cuba, and Slice of Heaven, classics by Split Enz and Hello Sailor, Rockinghorse, Headband, Ardijah and the Holidaymakers and given them ‘the treament’. Mark will sing them alongside Debbie Harwood from When the Cat’s Away, Erna Ferry and another vocalist.

‘‘There’s a Sinatra-esque version of Yesterday... which Mark will be singing,’’ Rodger says. ‘‘The concert will be held in October 2016 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Manawatu Jazz Club. We’ll be donating a portion of the proceeds to Alzheimer’s Manawatu.’’
