Bumptious, sumptuous, voluptuous, scrumptious – this risque bouquet of saucy sashay could only be the New Zealand Burlesque Festival.
From the Las Vegas based Burlesque Hall of Fame, welcome Ginger Lee Valentine, Missy Lisa, Angie B. Lovely and Bazuka Joe. From New Zealand, Ruby Ruin – winner of the Grand Tease New Zealand burlesque competition – and Fanciforia Foxglove, along with two dozen top local performers vying for the Burlesque Exchange Scholarship to St Louis, USA.
A combination of performance and workshops, the three-day festival struts its stuff at the Globe Theatre, Red Delicious HQ, and the Distinction Hotel.
Thursday sees the opening night Promenade at the Globe Theatre from 7.30pm.
Development workshops take place at Red Delicious HQ in Taonui Street, from 9am – 4.30pm on Friday and Saturday, with the King and Queen of the Festival performance and competition, back at the Globe on Friday night from 7.30pm.
The spectacular Tease Festival finale takes place in the Distinction Hotel ballroom from 7.30pm on Saturday night.
Coordinated by award-winning burlesque entertainer, teacher and producer Kerry Rodda, aka MisRed Delicious, she and husband Danny Rascal established the festival to foster and grow the burlesque industry in New Zealand.
