A Taste of Our Past

This year the Palmerston North Heritage Trust calendar is showcasing the role of food in the everyday lives of Palmerstonians, from production, to distribution, to consumption. The cover illustration of afternoon tea on the lawn of Caccia Birch is a wonderful example of the variety of images that can be found within. The Heritage Trust was set up in 1997 under the auspices of the Palmerston North City Council, with the main object of ‘encouraging public awareness of the need to develop, maintain and preserve archival material and other records of historical significance connected with or relating to the City of Palmerston North and its surrounding region'. As one of the means of doing this their annual calendar utilises our local photographic archives. All 13 photographs are sourced from the City Library's digital library, Pataka Ipurangi, which can be found at http://digitallibrary.pncc.org.nz. Calendars can be purchased from the 2nd Floor of the Central Library for $10.
