Relay For Life fundraiser
The Bookwyrms are back. This long-haul Relay For Life team made up of staff from the National Library and the Department of Internal Affairs, has contributed to the popular Manawatu Cancer Society fundraiser for the last 15 years.
Playing a major part in this fundraising activity are the annual plant and garage sales held in the National Library carpark on Tremaine Ave.
‘‘Each member of our team has been affected by the impact of cancer in our lives be it on a personal level or through family and friends,’’ says the team’s plant sale convenor, Jan Watts.
‘‘In past years we have been able to raise over $2000 for the fight against cancer from this sale.’’
12 local nurseries and garden centres have donated seedlings, trees, native plants and perennials for the team to sell this Saturday October 31 between 8.30am -12.30pm.
‘‘As well as plants we will be selling general household items, books and clothing. We welcome donations of items from the public – these can be dropped off at National Library 1015 Tremaine Avenue during working hours,’’ Jan says.
Last year, the 19 member team’s total fundraising efforts, including raffles and sponsorship from individuals, raised $3766.
The Bookwyrms Plant and Garage Sale in support of Relay For Life is in the National Library of New Zealand car park, 1015 Tremaine Ave this Saturday October 31 from 8.30am – 12.30pm, possibly for for the last time at the venue, as the National Library is closing down in December.
In time for spring planting, the Bookwyrms garden sale returns to the National Library of New Zealand carpark in aid of Relay For Life.
