Lido offers complete summer programme

The Tribune (NZ) - - HOLIDAY TIMES -

There will be families these Christmas holidays with their eyes set on popular resorts around New Zealand. There’ll be some who’ve already purchased tickets to the Gold Coast, Fiji or Hawaii.

But there’ll be others who know the Lido Aquatic Centre can provide the complete summer holiday programme for youngsters from five through to 13 years.

Christmas can be an expensive time for many people. On many occasions mum, dad or caregivers are working and family members have to wait until they can take a break.

The Lido, in anticipating those problems, has done something about it. Led by Facility Manager Lynden Noakes and Assistant Manager Sanne Jacobsen, the team of experienced instructors have created a programme that will captivate youngsters from 7am to 6pm throughout the holidays.

This allows time for mum and dad to relax or work over the holiday period knowing their children aren’t just having fun but also learning important skills.

On any day from Monday December 21 through to Friday January 29 up to 100 youngsters could be on a scavenger hunt, at the movies, walking the gorge, enjoying the bouncy castle, going bowling or baking.

Every day there’s something different, from mini golf through to a trip to the chocolate factory, but the focus of the programme is always the aquatic activities. At the Lido Aquatic Centre they can enjoy the four hydro-slides, the AquaPlay area, diving boards, indoor and outdoor leisure pools and the 25 and 50-metre lane pools.

‘‘We teach safety and confidence in and around water. We give them a love of swimming and improve their water skills for life,’’ Lynden says.

‘‘The programme provides healthy exercise, enjoyment, the opportunity to relate to other youngsters and a range of activities that’ll see them engaged right through to 6pm.’’

Lynden says the children love the experience and are challenged by the activities on offer. ‘‘The fact they keep returning summer after summer tells me we’re providing the right programme.’’ The programme runs from December 21 through to Christmas Eve and starts again on January 5.
