New Year’s Eve party not one to miss

The Tribune (NZ) - - HOLIDAY TIMES -

Bring in the new year with an amazing lightshow and stunning fireworks. And it’s free!

This year Palmerston North will host the most spectacular event ever to be held in the city. New Zealand’s own Pink Floyd tribute band, Eclipse, will headline the event. This band has been selling out venues around the country and you won’t want to miss this opportunity to see them. They’ll be supported by Truly Made and the fabulous Amy Hunt.

The early part of the evening will focus on families with a wonderful line-up of children’s entertainment. The Fantastic Captain Festus McBoyle will delight the kids with his unique brand of humour and song. The fabulous Kiwi Bop will have your children singing and dancing along every minute.

Rising star Riley Booth will perform and the girls from MAMMA MIA!, The Dynamos, will wow you. Then things will really heat up when Highly Flammable takes the stage.

At 9.30pm there will be a ‘‘kids’ new year countdown’’ accompanied by a terrific fireworks display for the little ones.

‘‘Come and sing along to some of your favorite songs, dance and celebrate the new year in the centre of our city. Mark your calendar for the biggest New Year’s Eve celebration in town – family style,’’ says organiser Tony McLaughlin.

Free children’s activities will be provided and food and drinks will be available. Tony encourages people to bring some money for glow sticks and join them in lighting up The Square. Picnic blankets and low chairs welcome.

‘‘In bringing the most spectacular sound and light show here, we’ve also engaged Eclipse. Their performance will be as close as it gets to seeing the legendary Pink Floyd,’’ he says.

‘‘The night will build toward a spectacular New Year fireworks and light show with our house DJ pumping out some great dance music from the best sound system in town.

‘‘We’re really focused on producing a fantastic early evening show for the kids. This will feature great music and entertainment from Kiwibop, Captain Festus McBoyle, the Dynamos, as well as the exciting, Highly Flammable.’’

Tony believes this event is one that people shouldn’t miss. ‘‘Save some money this year and make Palmy your new year’s destination.’’
