The Tribune (NZ) - - WELCOME - – Richard

The big ‘heat’ continues. Though if Manawatu Standard farming reporter Jill Galloway is on form, that could change this week. Whenever Jill writes a story about drought-like conditions, as sure as eggs are eggs, it’ll rain.

So, if the newspaper’s resident rainmaker writes her thing, the dry warm stuff we’ve been enjoying is due to end at... Waitangi Weekend.

And that’ll be a pity. Because this weekend is a biggie.

For starters, there’s the celebration of our national day at Te Manawa, the monster auction for the Manawatu branch of the Child Cancer Foundation at Rongotea, the Gypsy Fair, and the Superstock Teams Challenge, which has already attracted a capacity crowd to the Central Energy Trust Arena, aka the Oval.

Still, the Rongotea and District Lions say that not once in 45 years has it rained on their auction day. Let’s trust that those Rongotea rain-stayers are right.
