A stitch in time at Sue’s Repairs

The Tribune (NZ) - - TERRACE END -

For businesses, reputation is everything and Terrace End’s Sue’s Repairs and Alterations has built its distinguished reputation on quality service, quality repairs and timely and friendly service.

Specialising in alterations, Sue’s Repairs also carries out repairs to garments, linen and curtains.

As owner, Sue Hill says ‘‘if the garment or material fits under our machines, we’ll fix it.’’

Sue has been working as a seamstress for much of her life and began taking in repairs over 34 years ago, eventually opening her first repairs and alterations shop in Wanganui.

Fifteen years ago Sue opened her Terrace End shop and this was soon followed by a third repairs and alterations shop in Wellington, where she now spends much of her time.

No job is too large or too small for the friendly team at Terrace Ends’ Sue’s Repairs and Alterations, and they’ll do their utmost to ensure minor repairs, such as small rips or tears and trouser shortenings are completed within the hour, and for simple trouser shortening the cost is only $18.

Larger jobs may take a day or two while even major jobs, of altering gowns and tailoring jackets, can usually be completed within three to five days.

Although we are in the height of summer, many people will be looking at their autumn and winter clothes and if their body shape has changed Sue’s Repairs will be able to alter their favourite garments to get that perfect fit.

This includes either taking in or letting out the seams, and if the client wants a new look, they can even remodel garments to give them a complete revamp such as restyling dresses and modernising jackets.

Sue’s Repairs also carries out a large number of alterations to garments purchased over the internet.

Terrace End manager Emma Stout says: ‘‘A number of people are buying clothes for special occasions over the internet and if they find their clothes don’t quite fit, they can make a booking for a fitting and we’ll alter it for that perfect fit.

‘‘I would advise that when people do buy off the internet they choose a slightly larger size because it is a lot easier to tuck in a garment than to let them out. We can also add a little extra pizzazz to make your gown something quite special.’’

So if you have a favourite item that needs some tender loving care or requires major remodelling, bring it into Sue’s Repairs and Alterations in Terrace End for guaranteed quality results.

For appointments, call them on 06 3577333.

The friendly and professional team at Sue’s Repairs and Alterations are Gina, Gaye and Emma.

Rhoda is now back from maternity leave and working part-time at Sue’s Repairs and Alterations.
