Pipe band attack in Feilding
Kilts, pipes, drums and highland dancing are taking over Feilding this Friday and Saturday. The town is gearing up for the National Pipe Band Championships this weekend. 45 bands are attending the Celtic Ceilidh with its accompanying Celtic market based in Kowhai Park. Juniors through to premier grades will be trying to impress international judges over two days of competition commencing from 9am Friday.
Friday’s Focus on Feilding contest day continues until 4pm, while in Manchester Square, the usual Feilding Farmers Market, will adopt a Celtic theme.
Friday afternoon’s street march and massed band display will mean several street closures between 3.15pm – 7.30pm along the marching route.
The bands will assemble on South St outside Manfeild Park, and parade along Fergusson and Warwick St, and then up Kimbolton Rd to Manchester Square, where the public welcome will be held.
Road users are advised to take alternate routes around the event to minimise congestion and inconvenience.
At around 7pm, Manchester Square hosts Rhythm of the Beat – the invitational drum corps freestyle performance.
Zirka Circus creates a fantasy world for its Cross the Ocean show opening on the Railway Land this week.
