riverside clean-up

As part of a series of community events coordinated around the launch of the new Manawatū River Leaders’ Forum Action Plan, staff and Councillors from Palmerston North City Council and members of the community joined Horizons staff scouring the banks of the Manawatū River to collect rubbish.

The clean-up started at Dittmer Drive with all volunteers given a rubbish bag and gloves before fanning out along the walkway. As well as the normal general rubbish like bottles and wrappers and plastic bags, there were also some unusual finds like a three piece couch, a tarpaulin, items of clothing and car parts. PNCC Chief Executive Paddy Clifford said we take a lot of pride in the work in and around the river to create an environment that’s safe, accessible and provides recreational opportunities for our community. Both PNCC and Horizons Regional Council are signatories to the Manawatū River Leaders’ Accord and have contributed actions to the new Action Plan.
