Bak­ers open new premises


Award-win­ning pies are rolling off the pro­duc­tion line at B2B Bak­ery and Cafe´ in Church Street.

About 10 years ago Andy and Jenny Ap won the sil­ver medal for their ba­con and egg pie at the New Zealand Supreme Pie Award and reached the top 10 for their steak and vegetable and gourmet pies in the same com­pe­ti­tion.

Now, af­ter a break of a few years to raise a fam­ily, Andy and Jenny are back in busi­ness and bak­ing their cham­pion pies at their new premises across from the en­trance to the Plaza.

They for­merly owned LA Bak­ery and Cafe´ in Ter­race End but have now moved to the city and opened at 373 Church Street only a month ago.

Such is their ded­i­ca­tion to pro­duc­ing top-qual­ity food that Andy starts at 2am to bake ev­ery­thing fresh for that day. They both come from bak­ing and cafe´ fam­i­lies back in Cam­bo­dia and, when Andy ar­rived in New Zealand 15 years ago, he started at Mas­ter Bak­ery.

They were both ‘‘born to bake’’ which is what B2B Bak­ery stands for.

Andy has a rou­tine when he ar­rives early in the morn­ing. He starts with savouries, scones, sand­wiches and muffins and then bakes his breads and hot cross buns.

Andy and Jenny be­lieve it’s im­por­tant to of­fer their cus­tomers a com­pre­hen­sive range of cab­i­net food or cooked break­fast and lunch from their black­board menu.

And so each day Andy and Jenny, who joins him at 5am, pro­duce hun­dreds of pies, pas­tries, savouries and slices for their grow­ing clien­tele daily.

‘‘We’re de­lighted to be back in hos­pi­tal­ity. We’ve had a great re­sponse from our cus­tomers who love our food, at­mos­phere and ser­vice,’’ Jenny says.

‘‘The sur­round­ing busi­nesses and re­tail shops have be­come our reg­u­lars. We’re very pleased with the num­ber of re­peat cus­tomers.’’

Andy and Jenny em­pha­sise that ev­ery­thing is fresh and cooked at the bak­ery ev­ery day. They se­cure their meat and veg­eta­bles from a lo­cal sup­plier.

While they do a brisk busi­ness with sell­ing their del­i­ca­cies across the counter, their cafe´ also pro­vides cooked break­fasts and lunches for cus­tomers who have a few min­utes to spare.

In the fu­ture they want to ex­pand their busi­ness through ca­ter­ing for out­side clients and at wed­dings and busi­ness func­tions. They also want to demon­strate their award-win­ning skills and con­test the New Zealand Supreme Pie Awards later on.

In the mean­time their de­li­cious pies are baked fresh ev­ery day and why don’t you try an ap­petis­ing pas­try at the same time?

B2B Bak­ery is open seven days a week – from 8-3.30pm (Sun­day and Mon­day) and 7.30-4.30pm (Tues­day to Satur­day).
