Bakers open new premises

Award-winning pies are rolling off the production line at B2B Bakery and Cafe´ in Church Street.

About 10 years ago Andy and Jenny Ap won the silver medal for their bacon and egg pie at the New Zealand Supreme Pie Award and reached the top 10 for their steak and vegetable and gourmet pies in the same competition.

Now, after a break of a few years to raise a family, Andy and Jenny are back in business and baking their champion pies at their new premises across from the entrance to the Plaza.

They formerly owned LA Bakery and Cafe´ in Terrace End but have now moved to the city and opened at 373 Church Street only a month ago.

Such is their dedication to producing top-quality food that Andy starts at 2am to bake everything fresh for that day. They both come from baking and cafe´ families back in Cambodia and, when Andy arrived in New Zealand 15 years ago, he started at Master Bakery.

They were both ‘‘born to bake’’ which is what B2B Bakery stands for.

Andy has a routine when he arrives early in the morning. He starts with savouries, scones, sandwiches and muffins and then bakes his breads and hot cross buns.

Andy and Jenny believe it’s important to offer their customers a comprehensive range of cabinet food or cooked breakfast and lunch from their blackboard menu.

And so each day Andy and Jenny, who joins him at 5am, produce hundreds of pies, pastries, savouries and slices for their growing clientele daily.

‘‘We’re delighted to be back in hospitality. We’ve had a great response from our customers who love our food, atmosphere and service,’’ Jenny says.

‘‘The surrounding businesses and retail shops have become our regulars. We’re very pleased with the number of repeat customers.’’

Andy and Jenny emphasise that everything is fresh and cooked at the bakery every day. They secure their meat and vegetables from a local supplier.

While they do a brisk business with selling their delicacies across the counter, their cafe´ also provides cooked breakfasts and lunches for customers who have a few minutes to spare.

In the future they want to expand their business through catering for outside clients and at weddings and business functions. They also want to demonstrate their award-winning skills and contest the New Zealand Supreme Pie Awards later on.

In the meantime their delicious pies are baked fresh every day and why don’t you try an appetising pastry at the same time?

B2B Bakery is open seven days a week – from 8-3.30pm (Sunday and Monday) and 7.30-4.30pm (Tuesday to Saturday).

We’re delighted to be back in hospitality. We’ve had a great response from our customers who love our food, atmosphere and service.
