Billy T Award finalist comes to town
BA – the undergrad degree derisively known as the ‘Bugger All’ grabs centre stage at the Dark Room this week.
Opening tonight for a four-night season is the stand-up comedy show Bachelor Of Arts by 2016 Billy T Award nominee Matt Stellingwerf.
Matt knows all about the BA. He did one. Couldn’t get a job, so did an MA. He then became a criminologist. Criminology plays its part in the routine of this promising comedian who has impressed since his debut in 2012 when he was a Raw Comedy Quest semi-finalist.
Matt won the International Comedy Festival’s Best Newcomer in 2013, was a nominee in 2014, has won four NZ Comedy Guild Awards, and his 2015 show Psychobabble earned him his first Billy T nomination.
Fresh from his debut on TV3’s AotearoHA: Rising Stars, with appearances on Maori TV’s Crack Up and TV1’s Coverband, Matt’s 2016 Billy T Award nominated show Bachelor of Arts covers topics such as the sordid love lives of the Olympians, the US constitution, Shakespeare’s influence on sexting, and how Einstein predicted the break up of One Direction.
The show has been described as ‘‘Incredibly witty, utterly filthy, undeniably lovable!’’, with Matt labelled ‘‘an erudite satire superstar’’ by one reviewer, and proclaimed ‘‘the highlight of the [Billy T] nominees’’ by another.
Billy T Award nominee Matt Stellingwerf is bringing his well rated Bachelor of Arts Show to The Dark Room this week.
