Kiwi music icon Dave Dobbyn will play in Feilding next Friday, April 15.

Feilding Promotion picked up the gig after a Whanganui venue fell though.

Feilding Promotion project manager Raewyn Loader says it’s exciting news.

An invitation to treat Dobbyn and his entourage to a rural lunch at the town’s Farmers’ Market, showcasing its fresh local produce was accepted, so preparations are underway to pull out the red carpet, Raewyn says.

Coincidentally, Dobbyn’s visit takes place on the Market’s 11th birthday. ‘‘[It] will be the icing on the cake.’’ The celebrity lunch will be at midday in Manchester Square followed by an opportunity for autographs.

‘‘We invite everyone to come along to the Market for a civic welcome,’’ Raewyn says.

The musician’s appearance is part of a tour to promote his new vinyl release, Harmony House.

For the 7.30pm show at the Civic Centre, Dobbyn and his band will be joined by young up-and-coming Wellington performer, 21-year-old Jesse Sheehan.

The limited tickets cost $30 and can be obtained from Palmerston North i-Site or Feilding Information Centre.
