Feilding Garden Fest
The four quadrants of Manchester Square, Feilding, will once again be the site for the Manawatu Garden and Lifestyle Festival to celebrate Mother’s Day weekend Saturday from 9am to 4pm and Sunday from 9am to 3.30pm.
This will be the third year the festival has been held in the heart of Feilding. The location has proved to be incredibly popular with ease of access for visitors and stallholders.
‘‘Our theme for this year will be bees,’’ says committee coordinator Maureen Healey.
‘‘Everyone on our committee is just buzzing with excitement with what we have achieved, and we cannot wait to share it with you.’’
The Honey Man, a regular contributor at the Feilding Farmers market will ‘bee’ on hand with some beehives.
With more than 100 sites, the range of displays should appeal to new gardeners as well as keen gardeners.
‘‘There will be something for everyone. We are setting up two large marquees, presenting lots of exciting ideas, innovations and practical advice for gardeners.’’
Along with some of the regular stallholders who have proved to be so popular at previous festivals, there are many new exhibitors.
Stunning products ranging from plants, garden tools, gifts, outdoor furniture and garden statues to name a few will be available over the weekend.
The band Stranded in Paradise will be providing live music over both days of the festival.
Craven Noble will be the compere extraordinaire for the weekend to ensure visitors are kept informed about all the activities.
The festival hosts a competition for schools called Living Wall. Children have taken recycled freighting pallets and converted them into living walls decorated with plants, bright coloured paints and other embellishments.
The public is asked to vote for the Living Walls they think are the best.
As a fundraiser, local Scouts will be on hand to assist with carrying customers’ purchases from stall to vehicle as well as operating a ‘‘cre`che’’ where purchases can be put aside.
For out of town visitors, Feilding offers up a fabulous cafe scene and boutique shopping.
Think square this Mother’s Day, think Manchester Square, Feilding.
Whether you are a new gardener or an old hand, the Manawatu Garden and Lifestyle Festival 2016 will be the place to be on Saturday and Sunday.
