Bluesy Blondes in the pink
When two blondes had lunch together, they resolved to meet next time on stage.
‘‘I miss singing blues,’’ said Erna Ferry. ‘‘Borrow my band,’’ said Julie Lamb. ‘‘You join in too,’’ was the reply. ‘‘We could be two bluesy blondes.’’ The two blondes, same hair colour but different blues styles, will be performing at The Globe on Friday May 13 at 8pm.
Erna Ferry is a paramount jazz and blues singer with a stellar experience in many styles of musical performance. She’s performed at all leading jazz festivals throughout New Zealand and her career highlights include winning the Wellington Jazz Quest, supporting American vocalist Al Jarreau, as well as touring with leading American jazz and blues performers.
Erna has four albums to her credit – the latest released this year is entitled Wild About You.
She has the ability to grab the crowd and make them hers. Whether she’s singing a slow sultry ballad or belting out a swinging blues number, you’re in no doubt that Erna is giving the song her utmost.
Julie Lamb’s career extends from writing, performing and recording original music, to forming and promoting bands and choirs and organising and directing multi-band music events.
She has written and recorded three acclaimed albums, the latest debuted at Number 10 on the New Zealand Music Charts.
Two Bluesy Blondes provides Julie the opportunity to revisit her blues style and hang out on stage with one of her heroes. Her fabulous band – with or without wigs – are Andrew Richardson (drums), Callum Hazlitt-Black (bass), Deane Hunter (guitar), Pieter Bos (keys) and Andrew Clouston (saxophone).
