The Tribune (NZ) - - WELCOME -

The wet weekend can only have helped the turn-out at the annual Red Cross Book Sale.

What a feast of bargains. And the returns are estimated to be between $70,000 and $100,000.

Collating the final amount will take time, but that community book sale is a terrific event that keeps on giving. Well done those who tirelessly volunteer to put everything together.

However, there is a final figure for an earlier popular fundraising enterprise. April’s Big Rigs in support of the Child Cancer Foundation has raised the record amount of $49,560.74.

That’s a fantastic effort from everyone involved in organising such a large crowd-drawing event – especially the truckies.

Speaking of volunteers, the city’s annual Civic Honours recognising voluntary service, are now open for nominations. Check out the council website and get some names in.

Your nomination could make all the difference to someone who regularly makes a difference.
