Travelsmart and turn your travel dreams into reality

The Tribune (NZ) - - TERRACE END -

The return of winter may send a few shivers our way but you’ll find an easy solution to the winter blues at Terrace End’s Travelsmart. Whatever your desired destination, the travel professionals will soon have you packing your suntan lotion and counting down the days until you get away on your tropical adventure.

While planning ahead can save money on travel and accommodation, Terrace End’s Travelsmart and Cruise Centre travel co-ordinator Shelley Hosking says at this time of year they still have plenty of well-priced travel options to popular destinations such as Australia, the Cook Islands and Fiji, in time for a winter getaway.

‘‘If you are considering Europe this year – you need to be flexible with your dates and cabin types – but there are river cruises still available for this season.’’ Shelley’s specialty area is group bookings.

‘‘For groups, it’s best to get in at least six months before the travel dates. That way we can get exactly the type of accommodation the group wants and the best flight options, and by booking early we can generally get good discounts on flights, accommodation and any excursions or other activities they may want to add to their tour,’’ says Shelley.

To qualify for group discounts the group numbers can vary; for accommodation the group needs to be larger than 10 rooms, for cruises larger than 16 lower berths, and for flights more than 20 passengers.

‘‘Travelling as part of a group is extremely popular and we have seen an increase in group bookings for weddings, where the bride and groom’s family and friends can stay together as well as relax and enjoy a holiday at the same time. We also organise trips for schools, sports and social clubs, as well as corporate groups, anywhere throughout New Zealand and overseas.’’

All the group leader has to do is let Shelley know when and where they want to go and any special requests for sightseeing or other activities. Shelley will organise all the flights, accommodation, transfers, tickets for theme parks or other sightseeing attractions, as well as any charter transport they may require.

Whether you’re part of a group, a family or an individual, the ease of travel has improved considerably over the past few years with increased options to Australia and beyond.

Singapore Airlines will begin direct flights from Wellington to Canberra and onto Singapore from September 21 of this year.

Shelley says: ‘‘These will be the first international flights for Canberra and they are currently building their new international terminal in preparation for these first flights. From Singapore, you can choose from a multitude of destinations across 35 countries on three continents.’’

Air New Zealand has recently added non-stop flights to Buenos Aires, Houston, Ho Chi Minh City and Manila (from December 2016, subject to government approval). Flying direct to Houston gives you many more options for the southern and eastern United States as well as to Mexico and Central America. Flying directly into Ho Chi Minh City gives easy access to Vietnam and to other popular destinations in South East Asia.

When booking with Travelsmart you can relax as they’ll take all the stress away. They will check your passports are up-to-date and valid for times of entry/exit into a country, as well as arrange any visa requirements. They can organise foreign currency, typically for delivery overnight, arrange Cash Passport Cards and kit you out with Korjo travel accessories. So call into Travelsmart in Broadtop Terrace End, and they’ll turn your dream adventure into reality.
