Globe gig for geeky Guy, master of deadpan line

The Tribune (NZ) - - COMMUNITY INFORMATION | WHAT'S ON - $30 tickets for the June 11, 7pm Globe performance are available online through Eventfinda

Guy Williams – the awkwardly annoying try-hard geeky guy on Jono& Ben, and afternoon co-host with Sharyn and Clint on The Edge Afternoons is back in Palmerston North on Saturday night.

He must have fallen in love with the place – he was only here in March 2015, appearing at The Dark Room for You Can Sense the Desperation – a show that quickly sold out.

Emboldened by this, the master of the deadpan inappropriate comment now wants to sell out The Globe for his new show, Started From The Top. That’s the short title – the full handle is Started From The Top And Continued At The Top, Has Had A Very Privileged Upbringing Now We’re Here. Probably Underachieving If Anything.

That’s despite no longer being New Zealand’s Sexiest Male Television Personality, a title bestowed upon him by TV Guide in 2014. When you start at the top, there are but a few options left.

Anyway, according to Guy, SFTT aims to address gender and racial privilege in contemporary New Zealand.

‘‘The key word is ‘aims’, no refunds. That was a joke. I probably would give you a refund if you really wanted it,’’ he quips awkwardly.
