Would you make a good can­di­date?

With Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment Elec­tions this year, Palmer­ston North City Coun­cil will be seek­ing nom­i­na­tions for a Mayor and fif­teen Coun­cil­lors. If you would like to take an ac­tive part in how the city func­tions by rep­re­sent­ing the peo­ple of the City, nom­i­na­tions open on Fri­day 15th July.

For prospec­tive can­di­dates a com­pleted nom­i­na­tion form and two nom­i­na­tors will be re­quired. A 150 word can­di­date pro­file state­ment should also be sub­mit­ted and must ad­vise whether or not a can­di­date's prin­ci­pal place of res­i­dence is in the lo­cal gov­ern­ment area for which the can­di­date seeks elec­tion. In­clude your poli­cies and in­ten­tions if elected.

Elec­toral Of­fi­cer, Dr John Annabell said that no spe­cial skills are re­quired but it would be help­ful if the can­di­date had time man­age­ment, communication, ne­go­ti­at­ing, me­dia and lis­ten­ing skills amongst oth­ers. “There will be two sem­i­nars for prospec­tive can­di­dates that will pro­vide an in­tro­duc­tion to the Coun­cil and give an out­line of the elec­toral process. Th­ese sem­i­nars will be held on Wed­nes­day 29th June and Thurs­day 14 July at 7pm in the Coun­cil Cham­ber.” Dr Annabell also said that prospec­tive can­di­dates are also welcome to at­tend any pub­lic Coun­cil or com­mit­tee meet­ings be­tween now and early Oc­to­ber. A de­posit of $200.00 (incl. GST) will also be re­quired which may be re­funded.
