Would you make a good candidate?
With Local Government Elections this year, Palmerston North City Council will be seeking nominations for a Mayor and fifteen Councillors. If you would like to take an active part in how the city functions by representing the people of the City, nominations open on Friday 15th July.
For prospective candidates a completed nomination form and two nominators will be required. A 150 word candidate profile statement should also be submitted and must advise whether or not a candidate's principal place of residence is in the local government area for which the candidate seeks election. Include your policies and intentions if elected.
Electoral Officer, Dr John Annabell said that no special skills are required but it would be helpful if the candidate had time management, communication, negotiating, media and listening skills amongst others. “There will be two seminars for prospective candidates that will provide an introduction to the Council and give an outline of the electoral process. These seminars will be held on Wednesday 29th June and Thursday 14 July at 7pm in the Council Chamber.” Dr Annabell also said that prospective candidates are also welcome to attend any public Council or committee meetings between now and early October. A deposit of $200.00 (incl. GST) will also be required which may be refunded.
