There’s been some peculiar happenings in our neighbourhood in the past week.

You may have seen people walking around staring at their smartphones in a trance, loitering outside shops or monuments or pulling up outside random houses in your street. Don’t worry, they’re probably just playing the new Pokemon GO game. It’s a smartphone app that requires you to chase Pokemon, or ‘pocket monsters’, around real life streets and ‘catch’ them to earn points.

It’s been quite interesting to see how many people are playing and how it’s brought so many in the community together.

But we must not forget about those in our community who are not out in the streets wandering around.

As our front page story discusses this week, there’s so many elderly people who experience social isolation in their homes, and who often die alone. We should all be making an effort to get in touch with our neighbours and look out for each other.
