Offering quality, value

The Tribune (NZ) - - TERRACE END -

Gillespies Value House has been a landmark business in Terrace End for over 55 years and this longevity is down to a few simple principles: excellent customer service, providing quality clothing at affordable prices and always having a wide selection of casual clothing and dress wear as well as haberdashery and knitting wool.

Owner Barry Gillespie says: ’’Our customers always like the classic styles of clothing made from good quality fabrics. Customers also know we keep a wide range of sizes to suit most people and even during winter we’ll have a range of summer clothing for people who may be travelling overseas.’’

With a few more weeks of winter ahead, this is a great time to take advantage of Gillespies mid-winter sale.

‘‘We have taken another 10 percent to 20 percent off the sale prices so many items are now up to 50 percent off. We have a full range of winter clothing for ladies and men from thermal underwear to warm fleecy jackets, casual and dress shirts and trousers as well as casual sportswear and track pants.

‘‘The sale includes our entire stock of winter clothing along with all the other seasonal clothing we have in the shop,’’ says Barry.

Gillespies also has everything to keep you cosy and warm at night with their winter-weight nightwear including pyjamas and night shirts, nighties, bed jackets and dressing gowns.

And if you plan on being outdoors over winter either for work, recreation or as a spectator at sports events, you’ll be able to layer yourself up with comfortable clothing that will keep you toasty and warm in the bitterest of weather.

And, to top it all off, you can choose from their range of hats, scarves and gloves.

Other popular sale items are their merino wool and woollen blend clothing which includes thermals, jerseys and cardigans.

‘‘You can’t beat wool for warmth and the modern merino woollen fabrics are very popular because they not only keep you warm but they are also extremely lightweight and comfortable, which means they don’t feel so bulky underneath your coat or jacket,’’ says Barry.

For school children, Gillespies carries the full range of uniforms, including sportswear for, PNGHS, Intermediate Normal, St Peters and St James.

Barry says they make sure they always have stock in store to cater for children coming to the schools at any time during the year.

Many parents make use of Gillespies lay-by to help pay for their children’s uniforms and with the spring term approaching people may need to look at getting larger sizes for their children’s summer uniforms.

Over the past 55 years Barry has seen a number of changes in the commercial area of Terrace End.

‘‘This area has come a long way since we first started Gillespies Value House and its really good to see the new buildings going up and the number of different business that are now operating in the area.

‘‘This is a popular area for shopping with the free parking giving customers plenty of time to try on clothes and not feel rushed,’’ says Barry.

So if you’re feeling a little chilly, come down to Gillespies Value House, on Main Street in Terrace End, to take advantage of their incredible prices and, because of the quality of their clothing, not only will they keep you warm this winter they’ll keep you cosy for a good few years to come.

Sales assistant Zara, with owner Barry Gillespie, says she thoroughly enjoys meeting and assisting all the customers that shop at Gillespies Value House.
