Strong support for the community

As a family owned real estate firm, Watsons Real Estate Ltd with offices in Palmerston North and Feilding, has been selective when it comes to choosing clubs and societies in the district.

‘‘We love giving back to our community,’’ says Watson’s principal Ken Watson. The company has organised several special community-based events. In conjunction with Neighbourhood Watch, Watsons sponsored several street parties. People could nominate neighbours they felt had been through difficult times. Watsons would then decide who was in greatest need of some brightness in their lives and would organise a street party for the neighbourhood.

For three years they have given away 10 whole hams at Christmas time and they organised a can collection in conjunction with Tiritea School and Feilding Intermediate. Between the two schools a total 1600 cans were donated and this was matched with the donation of the same number of cans by Watson Real Estate. The cans were then donated to Manchester House in Feilding and the Salvation Army.

Much of Watson Real Estate’s support to local clubs is of a sporting nature. ‘‘As a football family we enjoy being able to sponsor local football clubs and junior teams,’’ says Ken.

Previously Watson Real Estate was the major sponsor of Youngheart Manawatu and for many years has been one of the main sponsors of Palmerston North Marist Football Club. Watsons, along with staff member Chris Chamberlain, both sponsor the Red Sox Manawatu Football Club. Other sporting clubs to benefit from Watson Real Estate sponsorship now and over the years include Takaro Table Tennis Club and sponsorship of clothing for Takaro Bowling Club. Palmerston North Golf Club has also benefitted from sponsorship and Ken has been a member for many years.

Another member of staff, John Cox in the Feilding office, has a strong involvement with Feilding and Manawatu rugby.
