The Tribune (NZ) - - MID WEEK MOTORING -

Mazda New Zealand recently gave Kiwi foodies a preview look at the all-new CX-9 SUV, at The Food Show in Auckland last weekend.

At the event the company announced that the CX-9 would be coming into NZ in two specification levels - GSX (FWD and AWD) and Limited (AWD only).

All models with come with seven leather seats and Mazda’s brand-new turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 170kW of power and 420Nm of torque. There’s no diesel version. ‘‘The big focus for the development of this engine was about real world efficiencies,’’ says Glenn Harris, Mazda NZ general manager of vehicle sales and marketing.

‘‘We believe we’ve got diesellike performance from this car, but without all the extra add-ons that come with diesel.

The Mazda performance is there, but so is the efficiency.

The average fuel economy figure is 8.4 litres per 100km and that is the real-world efficiency on this car.’’

The Mazda CX-9 will be launched at the start of October.
