Among those members of the Defence Forces marching on the parades marking the recent anniversary celebrations, were women. Women make up a significant part of those forces. The anniversary marches reminded us of turning points in the history of New Zealand and the role the Defence Forces played during those times.

The ladies continue to play a strong part in the social welfare of past and present members of our armed services. With the demise of the old RSA, the Women’s Section along with the RSA Trust, worked on. During the life of that club they could be said to have been the strong backbone of its social activities. We urge more of them to come to the new RSA’s first AGM.

After the demise of the old RSA, a new home was found for the members, thanks to the generosity of the management at the Distinction Hotel.

The Distinction Hotel in Cuba St is the venue for the inaugural AGMof the new RSA, Palmerston North RSA 2014, starting at 10am on Sunday, September 4.

All current and prospective members are welcomed. The future of our RSA depends on active members.

Don Robertson, Palmerston North
