It’s a real shame read­ing of the clo­sure off the Sal­va­tion Armyrun men’s hos­tel. I would have thought they would have been ex­pand­ing this ser­vice. Surely the ques­tion needs to be asked has this been run­ning at a loss all these years? I very much doubt it.

It’s been my ex­pe­ri­ence and I’ve seen it here in Palmer­ston North, men are placed in flats and bed­sits by them­selves, and they can’t cope. The flat quickly be­comes a pigsty, and they nor­mally pass away at a young age.

And I might add not all are men. Every town needs well-run men’s and women’s hos­tels.
