COMMIT TO TERM

The Tribune (NZ) - - CONVERSATIONS -

As the date of the next local body elections is nearing, I think it is now an appropriate time to ask the ‘contestants’ to make a commitment that barring serious illness or injury they will commit to complete their three-year term.

Following the last local body elections in 2013 it was only a matter of a few months before the bright lights of Wellington appealed to Jono Naylor and he resigned his position on the Palmerston North City Council. The resulting by-elections cost the ratepayers of Palmerston North $250,000 plus GST.

This type of unbudgeted expense must be avoided, hence the need to get a commitment from the ‘contestants’.
