With some pretty dense cov­er­age of the lo­cal govern­ment elec­tions lately, we thought this week we’d take a lighter look at the can­di­dates and their bill­board de­signs.

I’m no de­signer - you can see our Page 1 story for a de­signer’s point of view - but I think it’s time to think out­side the rec­tan­gle, so to speak.

The signs end up be­com­ing part of the city’s wall­pa­per dur­ing elec­tion time and can­di­dates might need to mix things up a lit­tle if they want to get no­ticed.

It feels like they all fol­low the same tem­plate and I’d like to see them put some more thought into what makes them such out­stand­ing can­di­dates and show us their points of dif­fer­ence.

If they can’t be orig­i­nal with their signs, then why should we vote for them?
