Stage Door Cafe launches new menu

The ar­rival of Septem­ber has meant Stage Door cafe owner Deb­bie Chad­field has sup­ple­mented her favourite dishes with a de­li­cious spring and sum­mer menu.

Deb­bie, who has owned the dis­tinc­tive Stage Door cafe in King Street for two years next month, cel­e­brates the sea­sons with a change of menu to aug­ment the pop­u­lar dishes that her cus­tomers en­joy all year round.

Deb­bie con­firms the ever tan­ta­lis­ing pork belly bene­dict, the very pop­u­lar bub­ble and squeak, corn frit­ters, now with ba­con av­o­cado, camem­bert and aolli, and Stage Door’s leg­endary all day break­fasts will never be off the menu, but the time is right to in­tro­duce spring and sum­mer sal­ads and veg­eta­bles.

Two of the new dishes, avail­able from this week, are the vegetarian green eggs, on toasted sour­dough with hal­loumi cheese and salsa verde with the op­tion of adding ham and braised pork belly with baby beet­root, cherry toma­toes, gourmet pota­toes, green beans and ap­ple cider jus. In ad­di­tion are the pop­u­lar, fresh sum­mer Stage Door sal­ads with your choice of ei­ther beef and feta, chicken and parsnip crisps or salmon and av­o­cado.

Deb­bie has never re­gret­ted tak­ing over Stage Door cafe nearly two years ago. ’’It’s been hard work build­ing up the busi­ness and clien­tele, but I look for­ward to the chal­lenge ev­ery day,’’ she says.

‘‘I’ve been in the pro­fes­sion for more than 15 years and my de­sire is to keep mov­ing it for­ward.’’

Deb­bie de­scribes Stage Door as a des­ti­na­tion cafe so she wants to get its name and rep­u­ta­tion ‘‘out there as the cafe of choice for Palmer­ston North peo­ple.’’

She en­cour­ages peo­ple to try Stage Door out, es­pe­cially at week­ends when the cafe is open both days.

Stage Door cafe has a BYO li­cence so peo­ple have the op­por­tu­nity to bring their favourite wine or beer with them to en­joy with their meal.

To prove its rep­u­ta­tion, Stage Door cafe is a fi­nal­ist in two divisions of the Manawatu Hos­pi­tal­ity Awards. It’s reached the fi­nal of Cafe or the Year and tal­ented barista, Api Cox, is in the line-up for Barista of the Year. The an­nounce­ments will be made on Novem­ber 6. Deb­bie is de­lighted with the achieve­ments to date.

‘‘It’s a recog­ni­tion of the com­mit­ment my staff has made and a vin­di­ca­tion of what I’ve set out to achieve over the last two years,’’ she says.
