Cinema set to bring joy to film fans

The Tribune (NZ) - - YOUR PAPER, YOUR PLACE - GEORGIA FORRESTER

Film buffs are rejoicing after the announcement Focal Point Cinema will open in Palmerston North, filling a boutique cinema need.

Focal Point owners Matt and Julie Bell said they saw a gap in the market after Cinema Gold closed in August, so jumped at the chance to fill it.

However, they are keeping mum on the selected location, which Matt Bell said was due to contracts and commercial sensitivity.

Bell said there was still a lot of organising and ‘‘physical building work’’ to do, but he hoped the location would be revealed in about a week’s time.

This will be the fourth Focal Point cinema for Bell and his wife Julie, expanding on their Feilding, Levin and Hastings locations.

Focal Point will be in competition with Downtown Cinemas in Palmerston North.

Bell said he was happy with the ‘‘good location’’ of the cinema in the city’s central business district.

It was too early to tell cinemagoers when they could first catch a glimpse of the big screens, but he appreciated the enthusiasm shown.
