Good­will am­bas­sador SCHOL­AR­SHIPS for in­ter­na­tional stu­dents

Palmer­ston North City Mayor Grant Smith and In­ter­na­tional Pa­cific Univer­sity Chair­man Hiroshi Ohashi have signed an agree­ment to cre­ate the Mayor’s Good­will Am­bas­sador Schol­ar­ships for in­ter­na­tional stu­dents.

The an­nual schol­ar­ships, worth a thou­sand dol­lars each, will be awarded to six stu­dents to help with tu­ition costs dur­ing their first year of study at IPU. The Coun­cil funded schol­ar­ships are de­signed to en­cour­age stu­dents to choose Palmer­ston North as their over­seas study des­ti­na­tion. The stu­dents will be re­quired to help out dur­ing ma­jor cul­tural events in­clud­ing IPU’s Spring Fes­ti­val and the City’s Fes­ti­val of Cul­tures. They’ll also need to share their ex­pe­ri­ences of Palmer­ston North on so­cial me­dia. The agree­ment was signed at IPU New Zealand’s an­nual In­ter­na­tional Spring Fes­ti­val in Septem­ber, which cel­e­brates the di­ver­sity of cul­tures at IPU and gives vis­i­tors the op­por­tu­nity to en­joy the beau­ti­ful cherry trees blos­som­ing on the cam­pus.
